Description:

As we enter the President Biden era of tax and estate planning, one of our clients’ first concerns will be the possible reduction of the $11.7 million transfer tax exclusion to a lower amount.  To take advantage of the currently high exclusion and freeze their estates, many advisers will turn to irrevocable trusts.  This course will analyze the advantages and disadvantages of using a wide variety of trusts, such as spousal lifetime access trusts (SLATs), grantor retained interest trusts (GRATs and GRUTs), qualified personal residence trusts (QPRTs), life insurance trusts (ILITs), charitable remainder trusts (CRATs and CRUTs), domestic asset protection trusts (DAPTs), dynasty trusts, and retirement trusts.

Objectives:  Review the changing estate and trust planning environment; and summarize the gift, estate, and income tax treatment of commonly-used irrevocable trusts.
