Expungement Conference Webinar, February 25, 2022 - CLE credit: Up to 5.2 hours includes 2.8 elimination of bias
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Join us on Friday, February 25, 2022, as we examine Missouri’s Expungement Laws, Policies and Practices with the goal of improving awareness and access.
Criminal history records present the most significant and consequential information at every decision point throughout the criminal justice system. Criminal records are also used for an expanding array of noncriminal justice purposes, including firearms purchases, professional licensing, employment and volunteer screening, and national security background checks.
As valuable as the criminal history record is, the collateral consequences of convictions are wide ranging and profound, including the loss of civil rights, public benefits, educational and employment opportunities, and housing eligibility. Research on risk and recidivism has given rise to new perspectives on redemption, economic development and community well-being. Jurisdictions across the nation are increasingly adopting policy changes to restore rights to people with criminal records. Software applications are also emerging to help facilitate an understanding of a person’s eligibility. As these developments arise and expungement relief expands, it is important for those working within the system as well as those impacted by the system, to understand how expungement in Missouri works.
The University of Missouri – Kansas City School of Law is convening a virtual statewide conference to explore these critical developments, highlight existing work occurring in Missouri, and next steps. Subject matter experts from government, industry, universities, national organizations, and impacted persons will lead the day’s discussions.
